Dirk was born in Las Vegas Nevada on August of 1978. Growing up between the deserts of Arizona and Nevada, his hippy parents followed bands and stayed in various communes, "one in particular being affiliated with the manson family." Dirk was not of 5yrs of age before his parents settled down and decided to actual live in an apartment as oppose to a tent in the middle of nowhere eating various mushrooms and enjoying the occassional battle of mythical creature before bed. (and, when I say "bed", I mean, a sleeping bag at best.) Needless to say, Dirk was exposed to an interesting childhood. For instance, he claims that his inspiration for his art began at the age of 6 when he found an abandoned apartment that had a guitar and bow and arrow laying amonst a variety of rubble and filth. Dirk wanted the guitar and bow very badly, but, he had to first muster enough courage to enter the room, for the apartment had a painting of a cat with bleeding eyes hanging crooked and sinisterly on the blood splattered walls. Later Dirk's grandfather, told him the family who vacated the apartment had been murdered. Dirk reminesces of the frightening cat painting displayed on the wall and his inner battle between fear of entering the room and wanting the guitar and bow. He did eventually muster the courage, but, attributes the fearful feeling of what filled that room to his dark outlook on his art. Today, Dirk lives in Texas with his wife and 2 children...but, at night when the lights go out and everyone is asleep, he brings out his Super 8mm cameras, brushes, pens, and bring to life the twisted reality and haunted images he lives amongst.
